KONTRAPUNKT is ninth issue of PICNIC, the magazine by TRADEMARK PUBLISHING. In KONTRAPUNKT the Japanese artist Takashi Suzuki combines two photographic series. The BAU series attempts to extem­poraneously assemblage colorful sponges – meticulously photographed in 45-degrees-angle with a plain black background. The second series shows details of Japanese cityscapes. Suzuki challenges our perception as objects appear in a two dimensional image. The sponge series starts to appear as architecture, whilst the chaos of the street scenes dissolves into orderly structures and textures.
