ILLUMINATION: EVOLUTION - Eine Inszenierung zu Licht und Leben

Light and media spectacle

At "Luminale 2004" the Frankfurt Light-and-Culture Festival, the Senckenberg Museum revitalised the age-old link between light and life. Using video, light and sound, the exhibition became an archive of discovery for the senses, with reptiles, plants and fossilised treasures from the distant past all awaiting discovery. In front of the museum, visible from afar, ambient lighting created a visual link between the Geopark outside the Senckenberg to the neo-Baroque architecture of the building. Video animations transformed the museum`s illuminated facade into a Retina of Research - a larger-than-life index of the natural treasures the museum contains. In the Saurian Room, on a wall space of 400 square metres, panoramas dealt with five major epochs in the Earths history. Visitors could call up individual chapters of evolution at an interactive table and place the main characters dinosaurs in different visual and audio worlds.
