Câmbio Verde

Recycling and Food Security Service

Câmbio Verde is a program run by the city of Curitiba, in Brazil, which exchanges recyclable materials for surplus food produced locally. However, it does not reach in depth the inefficiency of selective waste collection, the inadequate disposal, the growth of food insecurity and the high waste in food production. To rethink this scenario, the experience was expanded both digitally, through an informative app, and offline in the communities, with local ambassadors that act as a bridge between the population and the public policy. With that, encouraging sustainable habits and bringing younger vulnerable populations closer to public policies.

iF Gold Statement

This smart and social service design has given birth to a new kind of local urban ecosystem. In a brilliant scheme, recyclable materials are exchanged for surplus local food. What stands out is the contextual interaction and social sustainability – sharing and caring!
