SCHWA
Wearable Health Device
Schwa is a wearable health device designed to calm anxiety by engaging the body's somatic intelligence. It mimics a therapeutic hug using soft pneumatic inflation across the chest and diaphragm, promoting relaxation effortlessly. With a "medical-cool" aesthetic, Schwa combines comfort with a tactile, confident design. Made from RF-welded, medical-grade TPU and gently animated by air, it offers a sleek and tangible alternative to screen-based anxiety tools.
This concept was chosen for its ability to provide anxiety relief through a discreet, wearable somatic experience. Through soft pneumatic inflation and a reassuring medical-cool aesthetic, it offers a calming, screen-free alternative that is both emotionally supportive and socially confident.
WINNER STATEMENTSchwa began with a simple question: can design guide the body back to calm when the mind cannot? This recognition means so much to me because the project grew from a belief that future technology should not only be intelligent, but also emotionally grounded, embodied, and deeply human.
