Bleijh Industrial Design

Inspired by the concept of flat packing and home assembly, Basten Leijh rethought every aspect of the classic velocipede, resulting in the Sandwichbike. Instead of a welded frame, it is engineered as a ‘sandwich’ of two weather coated frames of layered plywood. Bonded together by smart cylinders, the frames and components become a rock-solid piece of technology. When ordered, the Sandwichbike will be delivered in a single flat-packed box containing all parts and the necessary tools. Assembling the bike at home allows the new owner to learn more about the anatomy and mechanics of their new bicycle, which makes for a more enjoyable ride.
