Odakyu Electric Railway Ltd. Express ROMANCECAR model 50000 VSE

Express train

This new ROMANCECAR model 50000 VSE was designed by architects. It stemmed from the strong belief that a Ltd. express train should have the richness of a residential space. The exterior was designed to appear as an abstract flowing object running from Tokyo city to Hakone resort in the countryside. The design included putting the cockpit room above the observation section, which is located at the end cars, adopting articulated bogies between the cars, and pursuing a sophisticated design language with warmth for both interior and exterior. Additionally, the passenger compartment has a height of 2,55 m, 4 m long windows, and the seats are turned 5 degrees outward.

JURY STATEMENT

Innovation opportunities continues in vehicle interiors - selected by Prof. Dr. Peter Vink The iF product design award 2007 was also given to a train: the ROMANCECAR model 50000, which was designed by architects. It has a feel that is closer to a residential space than to an train interior.
